Families in The City
Read an interesting story that was the cover article for this weeks Vancouver Courier. The article was titled "In the City" and highlighted families that have decided to raise children in downtown Vancouver in condominiums versus houses in the suburbs. It emphasised that less reliance on an automobile and services such as community centres and schools were important decision making factors. One family that had moved from the United States had made the downtown decision after visiting Europe and witnessing family life in the city. This is a phenomenon that I have noticed myself. I see more and more children riding their bikes out on the seawall. Our local playground is always packed with families. This weekend when I was at The Roundhouse Community Centre there was a class of future ballerinas and a group of skateboarders going out to the local park. It was mentioned in the article that the local schools are full so that is a problem if you are relying on the public school system. As is true for moving into any neighbourhood, I would advise contacting the local schools to find out the enrollment situation.
